Breaking New Ground in Head Injury Treatment
Prof Alon Harmelin and Dr. Slava Kalchenko, two Weizmann Institute scientists, developed TOVA – a innovative imaging system that can diagnose and monitor subdural hematomas frequently caused by head injuries. TOVA is a lightweight wearable headgear that connects to a mobile device, which will allow physicians to monitor their patients' conditions from afar. TOVA's groundbreaking technology includes infrared light and radiofrequency signals, coupled with a unique algorithm that was developed using an AI machine learning method. Together with neurologist Dr. Paul Wright, Harmelin and Kalchenko are currently promoting TOVA's applicability and availability. Also on hand to help with applicability advancement efforts is YEDA – Weizmann Institute's technology transfer arm.
