Software developed at the Weizmann Institute is an asset that has value to Yeda and to its author(s). Often even the simplest software function has commercial value simply because of the time invested in writing the code, not to mention the expertise needed to develop the function. Moreover, it is needless to mention the value of software which may include patent application(s) and/or patent(s). Therefore, when a transfer of any kind of software between two organizations is required and when the recipient intends to use the transferred software for his or her own research purposes, a Software Transfer Agreement (STA) must be signed. The STA, like the MTA, defines the rights of the provider and the recipient with respect to the software and any derivatives.
